WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?

Isa. 40: 1-31; Ps. 27:14

 

Have you ever found yourself repeating the phrase, “I’m waiting on God for this or I’m waiting on the Lord for that”? If yes, what is it you are waiting on God for? A home? A spouse? A job? Some financial breakthrough?

 

In our quest to be the best that we can be in fulfilling the purpose of God we are careful to not rush into anything until we are confident that God has drawn or led us to it.
This, of course is quite good, yet, we are left to wonder why sometimes we wait so long and yet not get what we are waiting for.

 

This leads to the question, “On what do I base my waiting?”

The phrase, ‘wait on the Lord’, implies promise - that something has been promised to me by God, so I should base my waiting and expectation on this promise. It is not enough to know that God can do what we want Him to do for us, but on the basis that He has given us a promise regarding specifically, that which we need.

 

Since we know that He is faithful and never lies, we are confident that every Word of promise that He has given will come to pass in the time appointed. Therefore, whatever challenges we may face, whatever mountain we would have to climb or valley to endure, we know that if we have a word from God our waiting will reap a harvest in due time.

It means therefore, that in our quest to obtain anything from our God we need to quiet ourselves from our complaining and take some time to listen to His thoughts concerning our issues. It is only after we have heard that we have reason to wait with great expectancy.

 

Nothing is as unfulfilling and frustrating as living a Christian life with little or no result - not having had a real example of God coming through for you. So we should train ourselves to hear the word of God so that we may see him glorified in our lives.

 This involves:

  • Making a conscious effort to enter His presence through praise and worship daily
  • By being specific when we present our cases to Him
  • And by spending time in His word, meditating on it, and obeying Him

Sometimes He may speak to us in that still small voice in the depth of our heart, sometimes through making something in His word come alive to us; yet at other times he speaks to us through others. Whatever the method he chooses, there will be that confidence that whether or not He says to what we want to hear.

I believe that everyday of our lives God would say something to us if we would only tune our hearts to hear Him.

 

So, whatever your need, whatever your cares, bring it to Him and instead of telling Him what you want Him to do and how, ask Him to speak a word into your heart and once He has spoken go ahead and wait on Him.

 

And remember this week: God is never early nor is He ever late; He’s always right on time and he stands by his word to perform it.

CHRIST OVER RELIGIOUS

John 5: 1-16
Vs. 16 – And therefore, did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the Sabbath day
 
As we become settled in our Christian lives, we establish our own modus operandi, both as individuals and as churches.  We become comfortable with the status quo, the way things are done as long as we see some form of result. We tend to get so carried away with our methods and processes, especially if they are Bible based, that we sometimes lose the simple day to day miracles that Christ would do in and around us.
In fact, we treat these as intrusions, unwelcome instances and instead of appreciating them; we do our best to get rid of the ones responsible for such intrusions into our norms.
 
As Christians, we need to be very careful that we do not choose our religions over Jesus Christ.  We need to recognize that the only norm in Christianity is Christ Jesus.  Therefore, we should seek daily to open our hearts and spirits to allow him the freedom to operate within and among us at will. We should endeavor to not be like the Jews who, were so caught up in the norm of the Sabbath Day that they failed to see that the one who governed the Sabbath and rather chose on that day  to do for someone in need. This was something so wonderful, so miraculous, so great; something that he had been waiting for 38 years.  How wonderful it would be for us if we had been suffering like this man for 38 years and God had chosen on an unlikely day to grant us our freedom.
 
What is it that God would want to do for you today?  Do you want it badly enough to allow him to go beyond the norm and bring it to you?  Is there an area in your life that has become such a stronghold in its normalcy that you would prefer to crucify Jesus, than to allow him to intrude and perform a miracle for you?
 
I encourage you open up and allow Jesus Christ, the Lord of our lives the freedom and access to intervene at any time so that He would manifest His Glory and Power in you today.
